Safety
Testing and maintenance of smoke detectors is undertaken on a regular basis.
Toys are checked regularly for functionality and breakages.
Our large greyhounds are muzzled in the presence of minded children. The dogs are NOT dangerous and in fact love the children for tickles. This is precautionary measure due to their size and for no other reason.
To prevent unauthorised entry and exit from the building the front door has an 80db alarm.
Should your child wish to bring a skateboard, bike or scooter please ensure that they have all the necessary safety equipment i.e. helmet, elbowpads and kneepads, otherwise I cannot be held responsible for any injury that could have been easily avoided with the correct equipment supplied. Failure to supply safety equipment could result in bikes, scooters or skateboards being actively discouraged from use. If you are happy with your child using this equipment without safety gear then please provide me with a letter authorising them to play without it.
The central heating system is maintained on an annual basis and we try to maintain a comfortable temperature at all times. However during very hot weather we cannot guarantee this.
A carbon monoxide detector near the boiler is checked and replaced on a regular basis.
Children are not allowed to be unattended in the kitchen unless they are older and require the use of the bathroom unaided.
Children are monitored closely with regard to viewing television and IT computer equipment. Time limits and distances from screens are set as required.
Childrens shoes need to be of good standard and be appropriate to the current weather conditions. You can provide welly boots to reside at the childminders for the wetter days.
All children are advised on the dangers of playing outside including being approached by strangers, approaching other animals and general road safety.
All children have access to the rear garden, however they are restricted to the lower decked area as beyond is very steep terrain. The steep terrain area is separated by by a latched gate. The rear garden is fully fenced and has a padlocked gate which accesses the front garden. Children will be advised on how to play safely with the large play equipment with special emphasis on the use of the trampoline. All the children are monitored whilst playing on this equipment. If you do not wish you child to participate in playing with the large equipment then please advise me as soon as possible. Access to the rear garden is weather permitting and children will only be allowed out when the decking is dry as wet decking can be very slippy.
Safety Equipment is installed on kitchen cabinets that require locks, a fireguard is available for use but as a rule the gas fire is not used in the presence of minded children, there is a dog/child safety gate installed between the kitchen and livingroom and stair gate is available to keep children from going upstairs. As part of my registration minded children are not allowed to use any facility on the 1st floor so they are required to stay on the ground floor.
